Pawnee Mental Health Services

Specific Need

Pawnee Mental Health (Clay Center) needs funding to help us enhance our facility and provide a variety of items necessary for patient treatment and/or our community services work with children with Serious Emotional Disturbances and adults with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness. These items include but are not limited to: therapeutic games and toys, craft materials, food items used to help teach members of our adult groups how to select and prepare healthy foods. 


The mission of Pawnee Mental Health Services is to provide comprehensive quality mental health and substance use treatment and recovery services to strengthen the wellness of our communities.


Pawnee has been a part of the Clay County community since 1965. Pawnee is a community leader in the realm of mental health.  As a community mental health center Pawnee provides numerous services not provided by any other mental health agency.  These services include:


- Community based services for children with serious emotional disturbances (SED)

- Community support services for adults with severe and persistent mental illnesses (SPMI)

- Ability to involuntarily admit a patient into the state psychiatric hospital

- Service availability 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.


In FY2017, Pawnee served 356 individuals from Clay County providing nearly $428,000 in services.  More than $137,000 of these services were written off by Pawnee due to the clients inability to pay, bad debt and limitations on insurance benefits,
