Pawnee Mental Health Services

Goal: $2,000.00

Specific Need

Pawnee Mental Health (Clay Center) needs funding to help us enhance our facility and provide a variety of items necessary for patient treatment and/or our community services work with children with Serious Emotional Disturbances and adults with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness. These items include but are not limited to: therapeutic games and toys, craft materials, food items used to help teach members of our adult groups how to select and prepare healthy foods.

The mission of Pawnee Mental Health Services is to provide comprehensive quality mental health and substance use treatment and recovery services to strengthen the wellness of our communities.

This year, Pawnee will be raising money to develop a Play Therapy Room in our Clay Center office and purchase additional equipment that will be used in the Play Therapy Room as well as in the Clay Center Schools where Pawnee provides services on a regular basis.

Play therapy is the only therapy that is designed to allow kids to express themselves and learn through their primary language: play. Play therapy can help children with processing and regulating emotions, reinforce healthy behaviors and develop skills to cope with anxiety, PTSD, and family conflict. In addition to providing a space for individual play therapy conducted by case managers and therapists, this room will also provide an enhanced setting for family therapy and an alternate setting for talk therapy with teens.

Mental health disorders for children are a growing public health concern. Early diagnosis and treatment is essential to help children thrive emotionally, socially and academically. The specific benefits of the play-therapy room include being able to offer this service in Clay Center, thus allowing more families access to services closer to home. Because children learn through play, the functionality of the space will enhance their progress toward therapeutic goals. The supplies purchased could also be used for our school-based services and for our parenting class partnership with Head Start and the Clay Center Rotary Club.
