Food Programs - St. Pauls Episcopal Church

Specific Need

• We have been feeding children hot lunches in the summer for over 20 years.  This summer we served 3850 lunches in June and July.  Our current budget barely covers our food costs and our overhead, with the increase in the price of groceries. We need new appliances in the kitchen and have no funds for them.  This year, we request $3900.00 for a commercial refrigerator-freezer and will request additional appliances in years to come.  Please help us to keep making lunches for Clay Center children in need, so they will be ready to study when school begins each August.  About 50% of Clay Center school children are eligible for free and reduced lunches when school is in session. This program helps them get through the summer.

Besides having another successful summer of Kids Cafe in June and July 2025 (over 4,000 meals served), we were able to use our Gather for Good money donated in 2024 and purchased two new refrigerator/freezers for our Kids Cafe.  I believe there is still money available to purchase whatever our cook will need to keep the kitchen up to date.  Our biggest need this year is getting our basement back in working order so we can once again have our Annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake supper and perhaps host a soup supper for our community in the winter.  Because of water damage in the basement, it required all the walls to be stripped down to the concrete.  We are in the process now  of replacing the walls with sheet rock, but it takes time and money. We did have insurance money, but, of course, it doesn't always cover everything.  All donations from the 2025 Match Day for St. Paul's will be most generously accepted to be used either for our on going food programs or for repairing our basement.
