Green Community Cafe

Specific Need

Over the last two years, incredibly generous donations have allowed us to not only make the restaurant a more comfortable environment for our customers, but also a safer one for the staff and diners. Your donation to the Green Cafe will help us continue to make improvements to the facility so it may serve the community for many years to come as a gathering place in Green. During this past blistering summer, we identified some big needs to keep the cafe a pleasant place to dine in the heat of summer. We are looking to install an exhaust system to lessen the load on our HVAC equipment by flushing out the hot air being held in the attic. There are windows in need of replacement that would allow for better efficiency to keep the dining area at a comfortable temperature. The lighting throughout the building has been "flashing" its age, as well as our ceiling fans. Their replacement to more efficient options will also assist in maintaining a better temperature throughout the building.

Mission

The Green Cafe has served its community for 42 years! Unlike the usual eatery, it is ran and loved by its community. The cafe is managed by a board of seven individuals from the area, waitresses are volunteers, locals donate their time, decor, and more, and folks are eager to jump in when we have a facility update or deep clean day. Our purpose is simple, we want to feed the people of our community homestyle food and remain a central location for people to come together to share a meal, a conversation, or a booth. Our humble cafe allows families, coworkers, business acquaintences, and even strangers, to slow down and connect from the usual busy day.

Profile

Since the revamp of the cafe in September 2023, multiple successful fundraisers and special dinners have been hosted. From those and the generosity during Gather for Good, major updates have been made to the cafe including:

2025: Newly reupholstered booths, updated seating and tables for dining areas, new paneling in front dining area, new flooring in back dining room.

2023-2024: Two fryers, one stove, one fridge, updated hood and supression system to meet safety standards, new flooring in dining area and hallway, new accessible bathroom (through a grant), HVAC equipment, ice cream machine.

Volunteers deep clean the cafe twice a year, freshen paint as needed in the dining area, and update the decor seasonaly. The majority of the help for major renovations have happened with donated time and generous monetary funds.
