The Wakefield Museum Association is raising funds to finance the construction of an addition to the present Museum structure. This Expansion Project will add over 10,000 square feet of much needed space to house and display hundreds of Wakefield area artifacts for which space is currently not available. This project will also include the installation of an elevator, which will allow all visitors to view the many interesting displays on the lower level of the facility. Two fully accessible restrooms will also be added to the building, making the Museum ADA compliant.

The Wakefield Museum does not receive any city, county, or state tax dollars and exists solely on donations and fund raisers.

Profile

The Wakefield Museum Association, a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization, was created in 1974 to serve as custodian of the history of the community of Wakefield and the surrounding Republican River Valley communities. The Museum displays memorabilia of the communities and houses genealogical records of the people who founded, lived in, or are presently living in the communities. The Museum has over 7,000 square feet of displays and artifacts, including Native American, African, military memorabilia from veterans of all US wars and military branches, WRHS and WHS schools, churches, organizations, and businesses. The Museum has become a resource for genealogical research and a focal point of the community, drawing nearly 1,000 visitors annually to the area.

Also under the Wakefield Museum Association umbrella are the Sunny Slope School, the Sts. John & George Episcopal Church & Glebe, and the Republican Valley Farm Machinery Museum.
